Physician, Heal Thyself @ Homeplace 1850s Working Farm and Agricultural Museum
Oct 6 @ 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

There were many medical advances in the 19th century and plenty of “remedies” being sold to cure whatever ails you, but have you checked out your favorite cookbook? Recipes for tonics, tinctures, salves and ointments were handed down through the generations just like the secret formula for Grandma’s Favorite Fancy Fudge. We are teaching and learning about folk medicine today!

Audubon Christmas Bird Count @ Woodlands Nature Station and Homeplace
Dec 17 @ 6:15 pm – 1:30 pm

Be part of our nation’s longest-running citizen science project—the Christmas Bird Count!  Volunteer birders throughout the western hemisphere join in this winter bird census, and you can take part here in Land Between the Lakes. Both experienced and beginner birders are welcome. We’ll meet at Nature Station and organize into teams to include everyone. Then head into the field to look and listen for birds! You can go out for just the morning or spend the full day. All data goes to National Audubon Society’s science programs which track long-term trends in bird populations. Bring a sack lunch and meet back for our lunch-time roundup of the morning’s sightings.

  • Registration requested. Please call 270-924-2299 to sign up or for more information.
  • Bring binoculars, field guide, and lunch.
  • Dress for the weather.
