We start our evening chores with the adorable Parade of Chic kens\, featuring our beloved Scissors the Hen. It’s a Homeplace Tradition! Then we say goodnight to the young whippersnappers on the farm\, our pigs . Finally\, you can help us herd our sheep to the front of the farm…well a ctually\, they already know the way. It’s a sheep’s world\, and we’re just living in it. Get up close and personal with the real stars of the farm\, our ANIMALS!

Be part of our nation’s longest-running citizen science project—the Christmas Bir d Count! Volunteer birders throughout the western hemisphere join in this winter bird census\, and you can take part here in Land Between the Lakes . Both experienced and beginner birders are welcome. We’ll meet at Nature Station and organize into teams to include everyone. Then head into the fi eld to look and listen for birds! You can go out for just the morning or s pend the full day. All data goes to National Audubon Society’s science pro grams which track long-term trends in bird populations. Bring a sack lunch and meet back for our lunch-time roundup of the morning’s sightings.
\nWhen the nights were long and cold\, having a good light to guide your way was essential. Traditional beeswax candles were a staple o n the 1850s farm. Come out and try your hand at dipping a candle and fin d out how many dips you need to make a candle that you can take home and u se at your own homeplace.
